Hydro Extrusion Hungary factory design

The Norwegian parent company Hydro Extrusion Hungary Kft. has built a new aluminium foundry in Székesfehérvár, where 90,000 tonnes of aluminium are produced annually by recycling production and other waste aluminium. The entire general design work was carried out by STUDIO IN-EX.

A particular feature of the new building is that since the first halls were built, the city has surrounded the area, so noise and dust protection was a major concern.
Therefore, the entire production and storage process is located in a closed space, inside the building.
The machines in the sawmill have been separated in a house-to-house manner to protect workers from high noise levels.

We had to meet stringent acoustic requirements to protect nearby neighbourhoods, and the operation of the furnaces generates a large amount of heat, which we had to dissipate while minimising noise pollution.
During the design process, we looked at several concepts on how to dissipate heat the fastest without disturbing the technology and the cranes. Finally, we opted for a concept in which the fans on the roof suck in air above the points most affected by heat build-up and exhaust it to the outside.
